Stop “Consuming Resources Like There’s No Tomorrow” – Annan
Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is calling for collaborative efforts to curb excessive use of resources to the detriment of others as it could have a disastrous impact on the world and human life.
The Founder of the Kofi Annan Foundation says he is hopeful for an international community of people working together to create a fairer and more peaceful world.
“I’m working to create a world that is stable, that is peaceful; where we as human beings realise that we cannot consume the resources of the world, the way we are doing, as if there is no tomorrow,” he noted in a short video posted on his Facebook wall regarding the need to put in measures to forestall preventable world disasters.
For him, “it’s going to be a disaster for our children and our grandchildren” if nothing is done about the rate of depletion of the world’s resources and preservation of the earth.
“The farmer knows instinctively that if you take something from the earth today you have to put something back to be able to return to harvest tomorrow. Somehow, when we move to the city we lose that instinct. We need to create a world that is equitable, that is stable and a world where we bear in mind the needs of others and not only what we need immediately,” he added.
The Founder of the Kofi Annan Foundation is therefore appealing for partnerships with civil society, philanthropists and well-meaning people to solve the dire needs of individuals to avert bigger challenges.
