Stop destroying state properties – Mahama to NDC supporters

President John Dramani Mahama has urged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to refrain from destroying or looting state properties.

He encouraged party members to act responsibly and avoid behaviours that could undermine the trust of Ghanaians, cautioning them not to repeat the mistakes attributed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The President’s remarks come in the wake of reports alleging the destruction and looting of state properties by individuals believed to be NDC supporters.

Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving at the National Mosque at Kanda in Accra, on January 10, Mr Mahama advised, “I call on all our supporters and others engaged in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to desist from such practices. We must do things differently to maintain the trust and confidence Ghanaians have placed in us.

“Many have said it’s the same thing the NPP did in 2017, and that is why Ghanaians voted them out. We must not copy their mistakes. I plead with you, let us do things in an orderly manner.”

Mr. Mahama advised NDC supporters to exercise restraint and address their concerns through his soon-to-be-appointed ministers.

“Government is being formed, ministers will be put in place, other officials will be appointed. And as I said, we will have our full cabinet in 14 days.

“And so we will have ministers in charge if you have any issues you consult any of the ministers and have it resolved. So, exercise restraint. Many [people have said it is the same thing the NPP said when they came into 2017.”
