General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has asked Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to stop lying about government officials who served in the John Mahama administration.
According to him, if Dr Bawumia does not stop peddling falsehood about Mr Mahama’s appointees, he would be haunted by his own lies in the future.
His comments come on the heels of claims by Dr Bawumia that the Mahama administration sold the right of buying and selling gold by the Precious Minerals and Marketing Company (PMMC), to expatriates.
While speaking at the opening ceremony of the Regional Ministers Conference in Kumasi last Friday, Dr Bawumia said: “We are going to announce a new set of measures to ensure transparency in the accounting of our natural resources, whether it is Gold, Manganese, Bauxite or Diamond.”
However, speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, 19 December, Mr Asiedu Nketia said: “Dr Bawumia should know that his boss, President Akufo-Addo, won’t be on the seat forever. The president will definitely finish his term and he, Bawumia, will like to contest to become the flagbearer of the NPP. It is then that he will realise his mistakes of being used to spew lies against the NDC.
“The same people who are using him to lie against the NDC will one day campaign against him on the back of his lies and that will go against him. So, if he likes, he should continue with his attitude.”
He added: “If he believes that members of the NDC committed some serious crimes or offences, he should prosecute them and stop this rhetoric.”
