Support NHIA With 1% of Your Salary – NHIA CEO to Labour
The Chief Executive Officer for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Dr. Samuel Annor has called on Labour Unions to consider supporting the health scheme with one percent [1%] of their earnings to better cushion and enhance performance of the scheme.
Dr Annor explained that the current 2.5% Value Added Tax [VAT] used in running the scheme is not enough hence the need for extra funds to support it.
He said prioritizing the health of citizens in every country is a step to development. This, he indicated, can be achieved if citizens are willing to contribute immensely towards it’s maintenance.
He stressed, this will also require that, authorities of the health funds are accountable to citizens at all times, saying, this will motivate citizens to contribute any amount without holding back.
According to him, his utmost responsibility is to ensure the scheme performs better for all Ghanaians and pledged his readiness to ensure it becomes a reality.
Politicization of the scheme, he added, is a serious threat to the sustenance of the scheme and therefore urged all to shun such negative tendencies in every operational decisions concerning the running of the scheme.
Dr Annor made the statements while addressing members and leadership of labour Unions in the Central Region. The meeting was part of activities initiated by the CEO to tour the ten regions of Ghana, to solicit ideas on ways to sustain the health scheme for good.
