Supporters of Bagbin Call for Self-Examination
Some Cadres of the opposition National Democratic Congress have called on all party members to be circumspect and examine statements that they make as whatever they say can make or break their front.
“We may all have our choice of Presidential aspirants, but at the end of the day, whoever wins the slot will represent out great party in the 2020 polls to wrestle power from the NPP government.”
Mr Solomon Donkor and Mr Fred Atsu Anthony, members of the respected cadre corps within the NDC said that the emerging media attacks on each other were unhealthy for internal democracy.
Mr Donkor said Mr Alban Bagbin for example had been accused of talking too much within the ranks and file of the party, adding that ‘it is good you allow all of them to express their feelings on issues so that we make informed decisions on them.’
“Everybody who is following Bagbin knows that he has been speaking the truth and so I can only say that it is people who hate the truth that are trying to get him to shut him down.” Mr. Solomon Donkor said in an interview in Accra.
Mr Fred Atsu Anthony said it was unfortunate that the attack on Bagbin was emerging from the NDC and not from political opponents.
“Now that we ourselves are calling Bagbin, who is marketable on the platform of incorruptibility, a loose canon, what will we do if he eventually becomes our flagbearer? Those insulting him sound envious because of his shining reputation.” the Cadre added.
He said Mr Bagbin has all along been outright in his pronouncement without a dent on any of his opponents and appealed to others to campaign in that same direction.
At least Mr Bagbin has denounced President Akufo-Addo’s slogan of Ghana Beyond Aid, educating that what Ghana needed was the application of aid since the country needed it.
The Cadres said the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament has also been very plain in whatever allegations he made either within his own party or against the ruling NPP government and should therefore be commended for that feat.
Mr Bagbin for the past weeks has received some support from party members urging him to constest for the slot of the NDC Presidential candidate.
Nii Adjei Kraku ll, the Tema Mantse, recently also asked the Akufo-Addo government to honour Hon. Bagbin, who is also the MP for Nadowli-Kaleo for his immense contribution towards the deepening of Ghana’s democracy.
