The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Musah Iddrisu Superior has been exonerated by the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.
This follows a written complaint submitted to the committee by the MCE to investigate allegations levelled against him by some 30 assembly members in 2017.
In October 2017, some Assembly members initiated steps to call for vote of no confidence against the Mayor, citing a number of allegations against him.
The accusations included: awarding of contracts without due process, taking and acting on serious issues without the prior approval of the assembly, disregarding and disrespecting Assembly members and mismanaging Assembly’s meager resources.
These allegations were put in a petition and submitted to the Presiding Member, Abubakari Adam Takoro and it was subsequently withdrawn with the intervention of some opinion leaders in the region.
However, the Assembly’s Public Relations and Complaints Committee carried out a probe and found the allegations as baseless.
“On the basis of the findings in respect of the withdrawn petition on passing a vote of no confidence on the MCE, the PRCC wish to state per the evidence available to it that, the allegations cited in the supposed withdrawn petition were unfounded, unsubstantiated and therefore without merit,” the report stated.
The Committee Chairman who doubles as the Presiding Member of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Mr Takoro, presented the report during the 1st Ordinary meeting of the 3rd session of the 7th Assembly on Wednesday, 14 March 2018. The report was adopted by unanimous concern.
Reacting to the report, the Mayor said this was a great day for democracy and rule of law for the people of the Tamale Metropolis.
“I am absolutely delighted not because I am being exonerated but the Tamale metropolitan assembly followed due process to exonerate me,” he added.
