TANKO Is Best Person To Represent Volta Region As Council of State Member –Minister

Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu has said, the win of Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, a 36-year-old entrepreneur, philanthropist, and business mogul as the Volta Region Council of State elected member marks a significant step towards youth-driven leadership and progressive governance.

In a Facebook post, the regional minister emphasized that the election of Gabriel Tanko Kwamegah is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the development of the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole, adding that, Kwamegah’s vast experience in governance and leadership will be instrumental in advising President Mahama on matters of national interest.

“Congratulations to Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple on His Election to the Council of State! His decisive victory, securing 24 out of 36 votes, marks a significant step toward youth-driven leadership and progressive governance. Tanko brings a business focused approach, prioritizing investment, infrastructure, job creation, and economic empowerment” part of the post reads.

He added, “This win restores Weta’s legacy in national decision making, following in the footsteps of the late Prof. Kofi Nyidevu Awoonor (2009–2013). I was present at the election center and remained until the results were declared, reaffirming my commitment to a fair, transparent, and democratic process. Tanko’s election is a sign of renewed energy in governance, focusing on regional investment, SME growth, youth employment, and agricultural innovation. I look forward to working with him to drive sustainable development in the Volta Region. Congratulations once again on this well-deserved victory!”

This comes after Gabriel Tanko Kwamega-Atokple was elected as the Volta Region’s representative on Ghana’s Council of State, securing a decisive victory with 24 out of 36 votes representing 67%.

The election, held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, saw the participation of key regional stakeholders and delegates.

Among the contestants were notable figures such as Dr. Wuaku David Kofi, Felix Lartey, Gabrilla Buhari, Ing. Worlali Kwabla Ameevor, Torgbuiga Adamah III, Togbi Kpemini Gawu, Azi Ganyo, Havi Delasi Justice, Kirchuffs Atengble, Godwin Yayra Nkuawu, Amegashie Godisgood and Rev. Cephas Kodzo Dzidzienyo.

In another development, the National Youth Authority in an official statement extended its “heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Maxwell Boakye, representing the Western Region, and Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, representing the Volta Region, on their recent election as members of Ghana’s Council of State. Notably, both individuals fall within the youth bracket. The NYA, mandated to champion youth development, recognizes the importance of young voices in governance.”

The statement further added, “The active involvement of young people in political processes is essential for building stable and peaceful societies, as well as for developing policies that address the specific needs of younger generations. We are confident that the leadership of Dr. Boakye and Mr. Atokple will inspire Ghanaian youth to assume greater responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to national development.
