A joint task force comprising the Police, Ghana Health Service (GHS), and the Ada District Assemblies has started a special operation, targeting public gatherings in the Ada area to enforce new health directives in response to a recent cholera outbreak.
The guidelines mandate a ban on the distribution of food and drinks at funerals, as well as the provision of hand-washing facilities at public events to prevent further transmission.
The GHS has confirmed 43 cases of cholera, including two fatalities, in the Ada East and West districts of the Greater Accra Region.
Dr. Dennis Laryea, Deputy Director of Surveillance at GHS, told Citi News that public health education efforts have been ramped up to help contain the outbreak.
Dr. Laryea also urged stakeholders, particularly the international community, to assist with immediate interventions to address the sanitation challenges contributing to the health crisis in the Ada enclave.
