A Social Studies teacher in Tamale has been sentenced to a 7-year jail term with hard labour for sodomising 18 pupils in a Junior High School he teaches.
The judge, Alexander Oware, sentenced the accused person on Tuesday, 9 August 2022 on his own plea of guilty.
All his 18 victims are pupils of Kulpi Junior High School in the Savanna Region and he was found to have had anal sex with them all at separate times.
The teacher, whose name was given as Natomah Otabil was found guilty of the crime by the Tamale Circuit Court.
Natomah Otabil was first arrested by the Salaga Police on 27 September 2021 after relatives of some of the victims lodged a complaint with the police.
The family members had initially lodged a complaint with the school and authorties cooperated with them to make it a police report.
Natomah Otabil pleaded guilty upon arraignment and he was .

He had earlier rejected a psychiatric examination report on the accused person.
Subsequently, a report of the medical examination conducted at the Pantang hospital was presented to the court, but was rejected by the judge.
A further examination was conducted at the Tamale teaching hospital and presented to the court.
The Tuesday August 9 sitting which was heard in camera, the presiding judge, his lordship Alexander Oware sentenced the accused to seven years imprisonment with hard labour.
His plea was taken on October 14, 2021, at a High Court in Tamale, after he was discharged by a magistrate court in Salaga.
He was discharged by the Salaga Magistrate Court for lack of jurisdiction, but was re-arrested by the police and put before the High Court.
