Tears in Court…As Bantama Gang Rapists Jailed
THERE WERE sad scenes at the premises of a Juvenile Court in Kumasi after four minors were jailed 36 months each for gang-rape.
The suspects were part of a five-man team that gang-raped a teenage girl and recorded the act on their mobile phones.
The suspects, who are all students, would serve their sentences in a correctional center.
Three of them were found guilty of defilement and conspiracy to defile, whilst the fourth suspect, was found guilty of aiding and abetting.
Few weeks ago, the fifth suspect, who is over 18 years old, was jailed seven years by a Kumasi Circuit Court, over the same crime.
The Juvenile Court premises, where the four were handed their sentences last week, were virtually turned into funeral grounds, as family members of the convicts, most of who are elderly women, were seen shedding uncontrollable tears.
The cries and wailings intensified, especially, as the four were whisked away in a waiting vehicle to begin their sentences.
It would be recalled that a video of five boys ‘bonking’ a teenage girl in a room at Bantama, went viral on social media seven months ago.
The video showed the boys holding tight the legs and hands of the struggling girl as they took turns to rape her.
The assemblyman of the area and some opinion leaders assisted the police to apprehend the suspects.
