Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, famously known as Tems, a two-time Grammy winner, has joined Major League Soccer (MLS) side San Diego FC’s ownership group as a club partner.

She announced the news on X on February 12, 2025, making history as the first African female to hold an ownership stake in an MLS club.

San Diego FC chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour confirmed her involvement, revealing that she became a co-owner through her company, The Leading Vibe. The club welcomed her with a statement: “We are delighted that Tems has joined San Diego FC as a club partner. As a globally significant artist, she will help us reach new audiences and promote our project, which has strong roots in sub-Saharan Africa through the Right to Dream organization.”

Expressing her excitement, Tems said, “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and be part of a club that values creativity, culture, and community. Football brings people together, and I look forward to helping build something special in San Diego, a city known for its diversity and innovation.”

With this milestone, Tems joins a group of influential figures whose achievements align with the vision of both San Diego FC and the Right to Dream Academy.
