Tension At Krofrom …Over Death Of Police Suspect

TENSION IS said to be mounting at Krofrom, in Kumasi, barely two days after a man in the area, who had been arrested by the police, was reported dead in police custody.

Kofi Poku, aka ‘Asco’, was driving an unregistered vehicle at Krofrom on Sunday morning when a police patrol team signaled him to stop but he allegedly refused.

ASP Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Unit disclosed that the police gave him a chase and eventually arrested Asco.

According to him, Asco jumped from the moving police vehicle, in an attempt to escape arrest, but he was re-arrested and sent to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He said few minutes after the suspect had died, angry residents of Krofrom invaded the Tafo Government Hospital to cause mayhem, and five of them were arrested.

Residents Refutes Police Report

Meanwhile, residents of Krofrom have described the police account as palpable lies, alleging that Asco was beaten to death by the police.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that there could be reprisal attacks in retaliation for what they consider to be the ‘murder’ of Asco, who they described as a hard-working and innocent person.

Family Petitions IGP
