There Is ‘Dumsor’ In Northern Ghana – NDC MP

The Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Mines and Energy, Adam Mutawakilu, says he finds it very difficult to come to terms with claims by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, that he has fixed ‘dumsor’ when evidence on the grounds suggests otherwise.

According to him, despite achieving relative power stability in 2016 under former President, John Dramani Mahama, the power situation under the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has been poor, stressing that the President is simply failing to recognise the reality, especially, in the northern parts of the country.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo in his message on the State of the Nation delivered on the floor of Parliament, Thursday, February 8, 2018, assured the citizenry that there is relief in the power sector since “dumsor is no longer part of our everyday lexicon”.

But Mr. Mutawakilu, who is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker for Damongo, contributing to the debate on the President’s message on the State of the Nation, Thursday, debunked claims by the Ghanaian leader that he has solved the power crisis confronting the country.

“We are all aware that since 2016, the power situation in this country has been stabilized. But of late since January, 2018, I am sure Mr. President is not paying attention to the cry of the northern sector. Since January, we’ve had persistent dumsor in the northern sector. I was in Tamale two days ago. We had three hours lights off and in some places, eight hours. Mr. President your statement that you have solved dumsor should be re-looked at. You are not achieving the desire results”, he noted.
