Tens of thousands of music lovers who trooped to the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday night for the ‘Wizkid Live In Accra Concert’ left the venue Sunday dawn in anger, sadness and utter disappointment after the headline act, the Grammy Award holder, Wizkid refused to mount the stage for even one song.
The fans who felt disrespected did not hide their disappointment as they took to social media to vent their spleen at the musician who they say had showed them complete insolence by refusing to turn up for a show he himself had advertised he would be performing for which they had bought tickets .
Some of the angry fans were reported to have pelted sachets of water at the organizers before leaving the stadium in anger while throwing clenched fists skywards and grumbling all manner of invectives.
It is confirmed Wizkid was flown to Ghana by the organizers for the concert and on the morning of the event date, Saturday December 10, he had advertised the event on his on his official and verified tweet account, @wizkidayo where he wrote: “Accra Sports Stadium tonight!”
He was reportedly seen at the event venue at the start of the event but he did not mount the stage to thrill the expectant music enthusiasts. Eyewitnesses say they saw him leave the Stadium before the show ended
After the concert, many of the angry fans who took to social media to accuse the artiste of scam as he had made them to believe he would be at the event only for them to buy tickets and then he never showed up to perform.
Some even called for the arrest of both Wizkid and organizers and tagged the Ghana Police Service to take note.
In response to the rising public anger, organizers of the ‘Wizkid Live In Accra Concert’, put out a statement to say all persons who bought attendance tickets shall have a full refund after the event ended without any performance whatsoever from the headline artiste, Wizkid.
“Wizkid breached his contractual obligation last night. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. We will issue FULL refunds to all who paid for tickets. Please send your barcode to [email protected]. Thank you”, management of Live Hub, a subsidiary of Finale Entertainment, organizers of the event noted in a statement, hours after the event ended.”
Grapevine speculations say Wizkid did not perform because he was not enthused about the number of patrons at the stadium.
What The New Publisher can confirm on good authority is that “filling the stadium to full capacity” was not a part of the documented terms of agreement between the organizers and Wizkid’s team.
Fees & Charges
Other requirements that were agreed as a prerequisite were however met and that includes his performance consideration which was not less than US$800,000 plus additional contribution to his travel expenses which was also not less than US$25,000.
Travel Arrangements
Checks from organizers who have billed Wizkid, a Grammy Awards holder for similar concerts his management would insist he travels in a private jet of about 12 to 14 while his other team members can compromise for commercial flights.
His travel arrangement to Ghana for the weekend’s concert was not expected to be any different.
The absence of the headline act, Wizkid, however did not stop the organizers from going ahead with the show Saturday night.
A number of Ghanaian artistes Gyakie, Kelvyn Boy, Yaw Tog, Efya, Asaka Boys and Darko Vibes all showed up to party hard with the fans.
Two other advertised acts who were missing on the night were R2Bees and King Promise.
