Mantse Agbona, Jamestown near the monumental Lighthouse building over the weekend saw thousands of Ghanaians participate in the 2019 edition of International Kenkey festival.
The 4th edition dubbed the ”Trinity Edition”’ saw patrons enjoying music from top and upcoming acts including comedy.
The event brought together the largest gathering of Kenkey lovers to the Kenkey Headquarters of Ghana, Jamestown to be precise.
In Ghana, there are two main types of Kenkey namely Ga Kenkey and Fante Kenkey which are popularly referred to in the local parlance as “Nkraen dokono and Mfantse dokono” respectively.
While the Fante kenkey is mostly produced in the Central and Western Regions, Ga kenkey can almost be labelled as a traditional food for the Ga people from the Greater-Accra Region and is common in all parts of the country.
Several Ghanaians and foreigners who were at the event expressed joy over the rich Ghanaian culture and thanked organizers for such an initiative in the growth of the Tourism Industry.
The event is aimed at exploring the different types of kenkey meals across Ghana aside the commonly known ones. It also seeks to debunk the narration that kenkey is for Ga people.
This year’s edition was in partnership with Atinka Media Village, Raba Rides and Gigi.
