THREE PERSONEL of the Operation Vanguard Taskforce have been arrested at Obuasi over suspicion that they are in bed with illegal miners.
The Taskforce is made up of military and police personnel, who have been tasked to arrest illegal miners, following a ban on illegal mining in the country.
The arrested officers include Lance Corporal Samuel Arhinful and Sgt. Baffuor Gyan (both policemen), and Sgt. Matthew, a soldier.
They were reportedly apprehended at the Golden Spot, a famous drinking bar in Obuasi, in the Ashanti region.
The trio had since been taken to the Command Headquarters in Accra for further interrogation.
A source said Lance Corporal Samuel Arhinful was stationed at Obuasi sometime ago, and was suspected of conniving with illegal miners.
According to reports, he was brought back to Obuasi recently, but little did he know that his superiors had been monitoring his movements.
Sgt. Matthew and Sgt. Baffuor Gyan were with Lance Corporal Arhinful at the Golden Spot when their superiors pounced on them.
