Three suspected armed robbers alleged to be terrorizing residents of Kokrobite and its environs in the Greater Accra Region are in the grips of the Kokrobite Police.
According to the police, they arrested the men upon a tip-off from a resident in the area.
DSP John Yeboah said about two months ago, a British national was raped and subsequently robbed of her valuables worth millions of Ghana cedis.
“The activities of these criminals deter tourists from visiting the beaches at Kokrobite”, he said.
He added that all previous efforts to arrest the perpetrators of that act had proven futile.
DSP Yeboah said the Police conducted a swoop after complaints from residents living around Kokrobite.
Chief Inspector Adu Ofori, a member of the team that arrested the suspects said the arrest will bring some relief to residents.
He called on residents to give the police vital information about suspicious activities to enable them to effectively carry out their mandate.
According to Chief Inspector Adu Ofori, the number of tourists who visit Kokrobite has reduced drastically as a result of these criminal activities.
Kokrobite, which is located along the Atlantic Ocean is notorious for crimes including attacks by land-guards.
The worsening situation caused the Chief of Kokrobite, Nii Offei lII, to condemn the constant harassment and attacks on innocent land developers, residents and construction workers on the blindside of the police.
According to the Chief, who is also a victim of the land-guard attacks, land developers and their workers who go to their sites to work are often severely beaten by these land-guards.
Nii Ofei made this known to journalists during the celebration of this year’s Homowo festival.
