PRESIDENT OF the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede, has called for peaceful presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7.
According to him, the country could only be transformed for the citizenry to enjoy, only when there is total peace and unity, therefore the elections should be peaceful.
Togbe Afede implored the citizenry, especially the youth, to jealously work and protect the peace and unity of the country before, during and after the polls.
The National House of Chiefs President particularly admonished traditional leaders to lead a crusade to help make the impending elections very peaceful
“Nananom should start to play significant roles to help protect the peace, unity and tranquility that has made Ghana an attractive destination”, he said during his speech at the inauguration of the National House of Chiefs’ renovated building at Manhyia in Kumasi in Friday.
He pointed out that Ghana has become the destination of tourists and other foreigners mainly because of the peaceful atmosphere, being enjoyed in the country.
Togbe Afede said “the unity and peace that we are enjoying in the country has always attracted investors into the country so we should all play roles to protect it.
“There is no way that we should allow the impending presidential and parliamentary elections to bring confusion and disunity to disrupt the peace in the country”.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, also appealed to traditional leaders to play important roles to help deepen the peace and unity in the country.
