Toilet facility sinks into mining pit

THE UNTHINKABLE has happened at Odumase near Konongo in the Ashanti Region where a 24 year old woman has sinked to death in a mining pit whilst attending to natures call in a toilet facility.

Identified only as Gifty, the now-deceased woman, was easing herself in a toilet facility in her house, when the entire toilet facility, suddenly caved into a deep pit.

Unknown to Gifty, some illegal miners had dug beneath the toilet facility in search of gold, leaving the facility hanging in the process.

Gifty, reportedly, got sunk into the mining pit with the toilet facility last weekend. She gave up the ghost within some few seconds without uttering a word.

The shocking and heartbreaking incident attracted a number of curious people to the scene, including women and children, who shared uncontrollable tears for Gifty.

Eyewitness’s reports indicated that residents of the community struggled before they were able to retrieve Gifty’s body. It has since been deposited in a morgue.

The police in the area have since commenced investigations into the case but no arrest has been made yet, the paper has been told.

Meanwhile, the paper has gathered that most of the houses in Odumase near Konongo have since been turned into death traps following the activities of illegal miners.
