On Friday, 13 December, 2019 at 10:00 am all literary attention will be focused on the 2nd Ghana Literary Festival set to take place at the Premises of the Bureau of Ghana Languages behind the 37 Military Hospital, Kawukudi.
The festival which is designed to open the Bureau of Ghana Languages’ Library will also unveil a book of poems by Prof. Lade Wosornu translated by the Bureau into 15 Ghanaian languages. It will as well host conversations, workshops, dramatic reading, Read To Play and exhibition/sales of works in the Ghanaian languages among other things.
Hon. Barbara Oteng-Gyasi (Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture) is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour and Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng (former President of Ghana Association of Writers, former Chairman of the National Media Commission of Ghana and currently, Chairman of Pan-African Writers Association Steering Committee) as Chairperson.
Others are Hon. Iddi Ziblim (Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture), Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo (UNESCO Rep in Ghana),Mr. Ernest Boateng (Board Chairman for the Bureau of Ghana Languages), Prof. Kofi Anyidoho, Prof. Lade Wosornu, Dr. Clement Kwamina Appah, Mrs. Korantemaa Adi-Dako among others. These dignitaries are expected to either read and participate in a conversation on the theme of the festival “Indigemous Language, a tool for National Development”.
The Ghana Reading Festival is an event dedicated to the promotion of reading in the Ghanaian languages among Ghanaians and interested foreigners. Therefore, as it was at the last edition, one of the focal points of the workshops would be to allow Language experts/specialists take participants through the fundamentals in reading in the Ghanaian languages.
Participating schools for this edition include Dunamis Academy, Last Chance Academy, Presec-Osu, Accra High School, Jack & Jill School, Accra Girls SHS, Osu Salem SHS, Alko International School and others. Participation is free and everyone is encouraged to partake.
