A tracking device fitted under a cab has led to the arrest of a robber, who had killed a taxi driver and absconded with his car.
The suspect, Benjamin Arthur, aka ‘Hope’, had shot the taxi driver in his chest twice in Kumasi and snatched his car, but was arrested at Kasoa in the Central region, just as he was about to sell the car.
The Ashanti regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwasi Mensah Duku, who disclosed this at a press conference on Tuesday, said on September 27, 2019, the suspect hired the services of the car at Breman in Kumasi, but upon reaching Atwima Dida, near Brofoyedru, he shot the driver twice in his chest, killing him instantly.
He said the suspect then dumped the body of the driver in a bush and drove the car to Kasoa.
Unknown to the robber however, the car, with registration number AS 932-19, had a tracking device, which the police used to track his movement.
The police, the regional commander said, eventually apprehended the suspect, who mentioned one Erasmus Adams Nketiah (at large) as his accomplice.
