Tragedy hit a family at Akyem Asene near Oda in the Eastern Region last weekend when two children drowned in the Adim stream.
Frank Agyiri, 10 and Faustina Yaaba, 7, were said to be swimming in the stream and got drowned.
Briefing the The Mirror at the accident scene last Sunday, the father of the children, Mr Joshua Quainoo, a preacher at the Grace House Assembly at Asene, said when he and his wife, Madam Comfort Anima, returned home from a funeral at Akyem Batabi, a nearby community around 6p.m.
Last Saturday, the two among their six children could not be found.
He said after combing the whole vicinity in search of them, a friend of the children asked them on several times whether they had gone to the Adim stream as they regularly swam in the stream.
Mr Quainoo stated that around 9 p.m that day they went to the stream and found the clothes of the boy at the bank but could not find the children.
He said the following morning, they reported the matter to the Asene Police who accompanied them to the stream where they found Agyiri’s body floating in the stream.
Mr Quainoo said the matter was then reported to the Gyaasehene of Asene, Nana Amoah Daadom, who invited the other traditional rulers to accompany him to the stream to perform rituals.
He said on reaching the bank of the stream, they saw the two bodies afloat.
Mr Quainoo stated that after the chiefs had performed the rituals, the bodies were retrieved and conveyed to the Oda Government Hospital for autopsy and preservation.
When The Mirror contacted the Oda Municipal Police Commander, Supt. Samuel Ntosoh, he confirmed the incident and said his outfit was conducting investigations into the matter.
He said the bodies would be released to the parents for burial after the autopsy.
