The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Gloria Akuffo has reportedly dropped the treason charges against the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho.
Koku Anyidoho was charged with high treason over his call for a civil coup d’etat against President Akufo-Addo back in March 27, 2018.
Koku had told Accra based Happy FM that, “on January 13, 1972, a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led a movement that removed the Progress Party from power. Busia was the Prime Minister and Akufo-Addo’s father was a ceremonial President. Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself”.
The above comment led to the immediate arrest of the NDC Deputy Scribe who was then at the Accra International Press Centre.
The tough-talking NDC politician was picked up by about 16 plain-clothed officers who besieged the Press Centre to effect the arrest.
The NDC was having a press conference to react to the controversial Ghana-US Military Cooperation agreement shortly before the arrest.
Koku Anyidoho was granted bail on Thursday, March 29, 2018, after spending two nights at the cells of Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
But report indicates that, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice has informed the Ghana Police Service that the state is no longer interested in the case.
