While the corpse of the 18-year old O’Reilly Senior High School student stabbed to death last week is still in the mortuary, another student of the school has been captured on video with a machete stashed into his school uniform and boldly displaying the weapon and daring anyone to try him and see.
Circumstances under which the ‘try me’ video was taken and went viral is still sketchy but the content has drawn condemnation and worry.
The video captured the student raising his school shirt to display the machete stashed in his school shorts and held firmly with the belt in his school shorts.
Same video captures other male students around him with some heard saying “fiili gadoogye”, “asaa, asaa”
Social media users who have seen the video have tagged the link to the platforms of the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Education Service, the National Peace Council and other relevant bodies.
Comments on the video vary with some suggesting that the home is the first and most critical place to instill discipline into children therefore teachers cannot be blamed for such behaviour.
Other comments also complained about the breakdown of discipline in schools these days and argue that spanking as a form of corporal punishment should be allowed in schools.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old student of O’Reilly SHS who was arrested and charged with murder following the alleged fatal stabbing of a colleague on Monday, September 2, 2024 made his initial court appearance on September 5.
The suspect whose name is given as Godwin is scheduled to return to court on September 19, 2024, for further proceedings.
The La District Court did not accept his plea for bail and remanded him for two weeks.
