The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has commissioned a Graduate Lounge to boost research activities at the University.
The technology-driven facility is expected to make life comfortable for graduate students who go through stress before producing their research work at the University.
Commissioning the project, Vice Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni indicated that the facility positions the institution on a better pedestal.
He said it will boost research in order for the university to be recognised highly in the international community where research is valuable.
“What makes universities unique in the world is a strong graduate school for research. Universities the world over are graded based on the graduate programs that are run. Placing graduate students at the Centre of things is the best way to go,” he said
According to Vice-Chancellor, not less than 80% of graduate students are full-time students, a situation, he says, makes it difficult for many of them that are undertaking researchers.
“We needed to put up a place like this to offer technological and technical support to them. We want to replicate the idea on the various campuses of the University to improve our research abilities,” he stated.
Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. James K. Kagya-Agyemang called on the students to maintain the facility to make the investment worthwhile.
