UEW Impasse: Afenyo Markins dismissed chasing Council with Police
The Member of the Parliament for the Effutu constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has dismissed media reports which claimed he stormed the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) earlier today to chase out the Vice-Chancellor Prof Afful-Broni including other officials.
According to him, he has not been to the school venue and constituency ”the whole of Tuesday, July 23, 2019.”
Describing the earlier reportage by online news portal www.starrfmonline.com as false in a statement sighted by thepublisheronline.com, he said, ”I have been in Parliament the whole day. I was in my office with the Chief of Effutu Zongo, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV, when www.starrfmonline.com put out the untruths about my person.”
”I wish to state categorically that I have not gone anywhere near the University of Education, Winneba today and I have not been in the constituency the whole of today Tuesday July 23.” the statement further indicated.

My attention has been drawn to a completely false and deliberate misinformation about myself published on the online news portal, www.starrfmonline.com, which belongs to the EIB Group.
www.starrfmonline.com, for whatever reasons, irresponsibly published on its site a story with the headline “Afenyo-Markin, Police break into UEW Council Chamber”. The lead paragraph of the misleading news story read: “The Member of the Parliament of Ghana for the Effutu constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Afenyo-Markin in the company of the police and the five dismissed officials of the University of Education, Winneba, Tuesday afternoon broke into the Council Chamber of the university in his quest to reinstate the dismissed officials.”
When my attention was drawn to the false story, I immediately sent a message to the Editor of the website that I have not been in my constituency the whole of today and that the correction should be made, if indeed it was a genuine error.
It is unfortunate that the news site refused to correct the misinformation and render an apology as courtesy demands.
Rather the Editors and managers of www.starrfmonline.com decided to share the link to that irresponsible act of journalism on its social media sites, to further embarrass and cause disaffection for me.
I wish to state categorically that I have not gone anywhere near the University of Education, Winneba today and I have not been in the constituency the whole of today Tuesday July 23.
I have been in Parliament the whole day. I was in my office with the Chief of Effutu Zongo, Salaki Sulemana Salaga IV, when www.starrfmonline.com put out the untruths about my person.
I leave it to the conscience of the Editors and owners of the website.
Alexander Afenyo-Markin
MP- Effutu
