Manchester United faced their second consecutive home loss in the Premier League when Joachim Andersen’s outstanding goal secured an impressive victory for Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
The teams clashed for the second time in just five days, with Erik ten Hag’s team securing a comfortable 3-0 victory in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
However, Palace had rested several key players during that match and showcased a transformed performance on Saturday, delivering an ideal away performance.
Following Tyrick Mitchell’s clearance of Rasmus Hojlund’s shot off the goal line, Palace gained the lead when Andersen impressively struck a first-time shot into the top corner following a free-kick.
Manchester United then piled on the pressure, but struggled to find a way through the Palace defence. When they did they found goalkeeper Sam Johnstone in superb form.
Johnstone made two crucial saves in the second half to preserve Palace’s lead, first pushing over Bruno Fernandes’ dipping effort before keeping out Hojlund’s bullet header.
Manchester United struggled to break through Palace’s defense, allowing the visitors to secure a victory that elevated them to ninth place, while the hosts slipped to 10th.
Ten Hag’s team has experienced their poorest start to a league season in 34 years, with four losses in seven Premier League matches.
