Unity Walk Best Way to Unite NDC – Spio
Former Trade and Industry Minister, Ekow Spio-Garbrah, has said the Unity Walks of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), are one of the best ways of mobilising supporters and preparing them to rebuild and re-organise for the 2020 general polls.
“That is the reason why I’ve congratulated Mr Kojo Bonsu and whoever else was with him who came up with the Unity Walk idea as one of the best ways, so far, of galvanising and mobilising the party’s members including the grassroots to wake them up from their slumber or disarray or despondency and just come out and let them feel that we are alive and by God’s grace, we may have lost elections, but life goes on and this is not the first time we’ve lost an election.
“The NPP has also lost an election, so, we go back to the drawing table, you identify what went wrong, try and correct your mistakes and you come back, hopefully stronger than before,” the presidential hopeful said on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Tuesday, 15 May 2018.
The NDC introduced the walks after its defeat in the 2016 general elections. It is aimed at uniting the party’s rank and file across the country.
It also forms part of the party’s efforts geared towards connecting the top hierarchy to the grassroots.
Meanwhile, some critics within the NDC have labelled the Unity Walk as a clandestine move by former President John Dramani Mahama, to project himself above his competitors in the race for the flag bearer slot.
