Ursula Owusu hopeful of retaining Ablekuma West seat

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West in the Greater Accra Region, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, says the ongoing voting processes in the constituency have, so far, been without any hitches.

Speaking to the media after casting her vote, Madam Ekuful said she was impressed with the process adding that Ghana is on its way towards conducting the most successful election in its history.

“People are casting their ballots, there are no issues with the biometric verification device, polling materials or the election officers. There is only one polling centre, the Step by Step centre where the Presiding Officer started the polls after 8:30 am but even with that, the Electoral Commission was aware of it. In every polling station, there was just a slight delay of the receipt of some voting materials. As I speak, I am fairly satisfied with the process and if things continue at this rate, we are on course to having the best election. So far so good, no incident has occurred, we are hopeful that it will continue at the end of the day.”

Touching on her chances of retaining the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Ekuful, who is also the Minister for Communications, expressed optimism that she and President Akufo-Addo will emerge victorious at the end of today’s proceedings, given the number of development projects being enjoyed by her constituents.

“We have done our bit but the rest of it is in the hands of God. I am very confident that we will retain this seat and Nana Akufo-Addo will retain the Presidency based on our track record here. We have done a lot of developmental projects here in our four years. Every sector has been impacted under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and the people appreciate it. All in all, most of the interventions by the government nationally; we have received our fair share and seen significant progress. Every aspect of the economy has been impacted by the good works of Ursula Owusu and the NPP. I am very confident that, based on my interactions with the people, they will retain me in parliament,” she said.

The Ablekuma West constituency has over 92, 0000 registered voters in areas such as Dansoman, Glefe and Banana Inn.

Madam Ekuful, who is a two-time MP for the constituency, is seeking a third term in a fierce contest with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Rev. Kweku Addo and three other candidates.
