Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency has advocated passionately for children with disabilities in a powerful World Humanitarian Day event held at the Ursula Foundation’s head office in Dansoman under the theme “An Evening With Guardians And Persons With Special Needs”.
The day, dedicated globally to acknowledging the contributions and sacrifices of humanitarian workers, took a special significance this year as Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful chose to shine light on the often-overlooked challenges faced by children with disabilities. The event was a blend of celebration and advocacy, aimed at raising awareness and fostering a more inclusive society.
“It is the world humanitarian day and the honorable MP decided to celebrate it with special kids with disabilities and their caregivers and their parents. So, each of them came with two people, either the parent or two caregivers that takes care of them so they came purposely to meet the honorable MP.

“There are some social workers, two of them here who spoke to them earlier concerning how to manage these kids, how to treat them at home and how to care for them. They also told their story individually and they got individual advice base on special cases they have for each of them” senior official at the Ursula Foundation stated.
He further explained “The honorable MP also spoke to them, encouraging them, directing them to come to the foundation anytime. They will facilitate some additional funding for them. Three set of meals were made, one for the child, two for the caregivers, among other packages to commemorate the day and to celebrate with them and to also encourage them that God has given them special skills and these days we even call them children with different ability.
“All of them can do a thing or two and the word disability now is gradually eroding. But there were some revelations also, there was this particular young man who has develop a software and the honorable MP has promised that she is going to support him get employment and also push the young guy to go as far as he can.”
