US Ambassador to Ghana hands over Level II Plus Hospital to GAF

The Office of the Security Cooperation Department of Defence, United States of America (USA) has handed over a Level II Plus Hospital to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at Nyesie, Tamale.

The 60-bed mobile field hospital includes an intensive care unit, two surgical operating rooms, an x-ray, a laboratory, a morgue, an emergency room, and two generator sets.

The facility can house up to 60 patients for full medical and operational needs.

The Minister for Defence, Dominic Nitiwul upon receiving the facility on behalf of the Government and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) expressed his gratitude to the US government and the US Ambassador to Ghana for the generous donation.

He stated that this gesture will enhance the ability to deliver quality healthcare to personnel of 6 Garrison and the civilian populace in the region.

The Minister added that the facility would also enrich the health sector’s capability to achieve universal health coverage in the region, with the view of becoming a major trauma hospital in the Northern Sector.

The United States of America (USA) Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Virginia Palmer in her remarks, expressed her pride in the long-standing security cooperation partnership between the United States and Ghana.

She noted that the Government is focused on supporting Ghana by working together on regional security investing in the people through a long-term development relationship and protecting democratic institutions.

The Deputy Chief of Staff Medical Major General Raymond Ewusi also expressed his sincere gratitude to the US government, the Ambassador and the entire team for their tireless efforts in making the donation a reality.

He added that the handing over of the facility is evidence of the strong bond and shared values of service, sacrifice, and compassion between the two countries.

Present at the Ceremony were, Northern Regional Minister, Honorable Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaidu, Deputy Chief of Staff Logistics (GAF) Rear Admiral Agyenim-Boateng, Airforce Base Commander, Tamale Air Commodore Joshua Mensah Larkai, General Officer Commanding Northern Region Brigadier General Frank Tei, Representatives from the Sister Security Services, Municipal Chief Executive Hon Yakubu Ahmed Mohammed, Damankunyili Naa Saidu Mahama and Nyesie Naa Abdulai Mahami, Officers, Soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff and Families of 6 Garrison.
