The National Lottery Authority (NLA) in agreement with the Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) is set to officially launch and operate VAG Lotto effective July 2019.
The operations of VAG Lotto is pivotal in addressing the issues of illegal lottery operations in Ghana, reducing leakages in government revenue, increasing cash flow into the Consolidated Fund and soothing the financial challenges of VAG members.
Prior to the agreement between the NLA and VAG,, most of the Private Lotto Operators and Agents were operating with a license granted under Act 844, a law which empowers the Veterans to engage in raffles or lottery to the benefit of its membership.
However, the NLA-VAG Partnership gives the National Lottery Authority the sole power to operate, manage and regulate VAG Lotto.
The Veterans Administration Ghana (VAG) had challenges with the requisite technology, infrastructure, machinery and resources to operate, manage and regulate VAG Lotto. They therefore depended on third parties who were unfortunately abusing the lottery regulations and further worsening the financial gains of the Veterans.
The license issued by VAG to the aforementioned Private Lotto Operators and Agents came to an end in November 2018.
Per the new arrangement, only duly licensed Lotto Marketing Companies and Private Lotto Operators and Agents would be allowed to participate in the VAG Lotto strictly in accordance with the terms and conditions as contained in their respective licenses.
Furthermore, necessary actions would be taken by the Authority to clump down on all unlicensed lotto operators and Agents across the country.
The VAG Lotto will bring an additional Revenue Stream to the Consolidated Fund as well as ensure the creation of over 20,000 jobs directly and indirectly. – Issued by the Public Relations Unit of NLA
