Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commended leadership of the National Service Secretariat (NSS) for what he described as their “out of the box thinking” that has saved the country an amount of GHC112 million.
Dr. Bawumia made the commendation on Monday when he paid an unannounced but official visit to the Secretariat’s head office to familiarize himself with its current activities.
During the visit, the Executive Director of NSS, Mr Osei Assibey Antwi disclosed that the infusion of digital technology in the operations of the National Service Scheme has saved Ghana at least GHC112 million and blocked payments to undeserving persons.
He explained that the app, which combines facial recognition technology and Ghanacard checks for Verification and Validation and has so far blocked the enrollment of 14,027 potential fraudsters onto the Scheme, saving the nation a colossal amount of money.
Dr. Bawumia further expressed delight that the fruits of digitalization, designed to formalize the economy and fight corruption, are beginning to manifest widely and urged Mr Osei Assibey Antwi and his team to keep up with the good work.
