The road to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) 2020 began last Saturday, February 29 with the announcement of nominees.
The call for submission of entries for the 21st edition of the VGMA started on January 2 and ended on January 31.
According to Charterhouse, the organisers of the VGMA, by the January 31 deadline, they had received 632 entries.
And after about four weeks of looking through the numerous entries, Charterhouse unveiled the nominees on selected radio and TV stations and online via a number of social media handles, websites and blog portals before the Announcement Party, which came off at the Labadi Beach Hotel at 7 p.m.
At the end of the nomination announcement, singer, Lord Paper earned his first ever nomination in his music career.
Lord Paper who had a weird entry into the music scene in Ghana, was nominated for the “Record of the Year” and ”New Artiste Of The Year” category.
The artiste over the years maintained that the music industry has failed to give him his due respect because of how he emerged in the industry.
This award will put to rest his claims of disregard for him ever since his ‘Awurama’ hit did not make a positive impact.
The event which was instituted 20 years ago, sought to foster the development of the Ghanaian music industry and reward those who have excelled in the five main music genres in Ghana, namely gospel, hiplife, highlife, reggae, dancehall and traditional music. VGMA 2020 is a Charterhouse event and sponsored by Vodafone Ghana.
