Vodafone Healthline series season 10, episode 2 discusses ways of dealing with preterm babies

In Season 10, Episode 2 of the Vodafone Healthline Series, Paediatrician, Beatrice Nyan turned the spotlight on effective ways of handling preterm babies.

She indicated that such babies need extra care, given that most of their organs are not well-formed.

“A child who comes before nine months are small and their body organs are not fully formed. They come earlier than usual and they have to be handled with care. Those babies are usually kept in incubators.”

She said such babies need to undergo Kangaroo care after being in incubators for months, to ensure their well-being.

Kangaroo mother care is a method of caring for the preterm infant which involves the latter being carried, usually by their mother with skin-to-skin contact.

The story of a two-year-old, Jeffrey Adei who received help from Vodafone to undergo surgery was also highlighted.

Jeffrey received assistance from Vodafone through his Pediatrician.

“Getting money to fund the surgery was a challenge. I got a hint of Vodafone Healthline. I put in a request and God is so good he was taken on board.”

The show ended with Medical Practitioner, Kweku Yalley giving a historical perspective on conjoined twins.
