WBC Promotes Ataa Eddie Pappoe
Celebrated Ghanaian boxing official, Ataa Eddie Pappoe, has been promoted by the World Boxing Council (WBC) as one of the two top boxing judges and referees on the continent.
This follows his 95 per cent score, the second best in the WBC/Africa Boxing Union (ABU) Ring Officials biennial examination which was conducted in Nairobi, Kenya, recently.
The examination, held every two years, also saw Zambian ring official, John Schipanuka, emerging tops with the highest score of 100 per cent among the over 130 judges, referees and other ring officials who took part in the test.
Mr Pappoe, who came up tops with a 100 per cent score two years ago, told the Daily Graphic that he was proud of his achievement and promised to use it for the cause of Ghana.
“I intend imparting some knowledge gained and my experience to my colleague judges and referees and those at the amateur level,” he stated.
The veteran boxing judge and referee is also a License C boxing judge and referee for all the five international boxing organisations, namely: WBO, WBA,WBC, IBF AND IBO.
He charged ring officials in the country to strive to attain the all-important goal of officiating top-notch boxing fights.
He entreated them to seek the highest knowledge in the profession by making themselves available and participating in both local and international courses to upgrade their standard in the profession.
He also expressed gratitude to the Ghana Boxing Association (GBA) for its support during the examination period.
