First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called for better collaboration between China and Africa to strengthen the global response to HIV/AIDS control and prevention.
Mrs Akufo-Addo said this when she delivered an address at the China-Africa Thematic Meeting on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control on the theme: “China and Africa: Join Hands For a Future Free Of AIDS” on Tuesday, 4 September 2018.
Mrs Akufo-Addo said Ghana, as in other West African countries, has been quite successful with dealing with stigma, by using persons living with HIV as ambassadors for promoting healthy lifestyles and showing people that there is life after HIV.
“We are, however, keen to learn best practices from other parts of the world to improve our work,” she stated.
Mrs Akufo-Addo believes given the research and global resources available, “we have a real chance at kicking out HIV,” adding: “A last global push will help us all attain a future free of AIDS.”
Mrs Akufo-Addo is in China accompanying her husband Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on a state visit to the Asian giant.
