We Have Come From Far

The country had a befitting ceremony to commemorate the anniversary yesterday. It was a very beautiful ceremony that was well organized albeit it could have taken a shorter time. No one wants to have school children standing in a scorching African sun for hours.

The hapless patriotic lads had only turned up to partake in a match parade which has always been a key component of the annual anniversary celebrations.

Looking back, the country certainly has a lot to be thankful for. Not all her aspirations and dreams has been met but certainly, it is not a sad case.

Ghana has a story worth writing home about, worth emulating and worth telling. As a country, perhaps if and when we decide to count our blessings one by one, it is only then that we would see how far we have come.

Despite our complaints and the grumblings that things could have been better, are one of the most peaceful countries in the sub-region and the African continent for that matter.

The country has an enviable political stability that has become the toast of the continent. Our democracy is rich and a very thriving one.

Our media is free and one of the most aggressive the world over.

Yes, there are still trappings of corruption to deal with but certainly, there is a type of political leadership that has proven beyond doubt that the fight against corruption would not be business as usual.

Ghana is now walking the talk against corruption and fast closing all leakages in government revenue.

We have not done badly. We should at least be proud of ourselves.

The hitherto challenge of not thousands of children of school going age dropping out of school because of an inability to pay fees has become a thing of the past with the introduction of the Free Senior High School policy by the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government.

This is one achievement that has eluded our fellow African countries and we should at least pat ourselves on the back for getting this right.

Perhaps, we, as a people and as individuals are the solution to the much-needed change we have all spoken about.

We need a change of attitude that would compel us to do the right things not because there is a ‘big brother’ watching but because we are convinced it is the right thing to do.

As a people we need to stop littering the environment and throwing solid waste into drains.

As a people we need to stop defacing our walls and streets with all manner of advertisement posters.

As a people we need to be stop cutting corners, braking traffic and road regulations and then tempting law enforcement officers with some dirty bribe money.

We have come from far and should be grateful for what we have but certainly, we need a change of attitude that can make us grow faster into the country we dream to be.

We wish everyone a happy anniversary season.
