We Must Fight Public Teachers’ Wickedness ― Professor Stephen Addei
A former rector at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Accountants (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Addei, has lamented that Ghana is sitting on an educational time bomb.
According to him, due to lack of supervision teachers in the public basic schools refuse to teach and deliver quality education to students.
Speaking at the 2018 stakeholder and fundraising event of the Odeefoo Oteng Koranteng II Educational Fund held at Ashesi University at Brekuso, he said “this accounts for the failures of Ghana’s educational system, which if we do not confront, it would explode in our face. The earlier the country confronts it the better to prevent the production of young people who are tools for social disruption.”
He opined that trained teachers should not be paid huge amounts with the level of productivity they put up.
“As a nation, we must admit that we cannot afford to be paying trained teachers more than GhC1,000.00, have better facilities to work with and yet produce outcomes worse than the poor private schools which are manned by secondary school failures, and yet because they are supervised very well and are accountable, they produce better outcomes,” he mentioned.
Touching on the Free SHS, Professor Stephen Addei commended government for their decision to use monies generated from oil industry to fund the free SHS.
He however advised the government to tailor the educational policies in a way to achieve purpose.
