Wontumi Roots For Kofi Boakye ..Over IGP Job
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka ‘Wontumi”, has endorsed COP Nathan Kofi Boakye as the most suitable person to head the Ghana Police Service as Inspector General.
According to him, the morale of the Police Service has of late been at its all-time low, and is of the view that only the likes Kofi Boakye can restore hope to the officers and men in the service.
So far names of ten suitors who by their title as Commissioners of Police are by rank suitable for the job in principle.
These include: COP Maxwell Sakipasgo Atingane, Commandant Staff and Command College, Winneba, COP Prosper Agblor, the Director-General, Legal and Prosecution, COP/ Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, Director- General of the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau; COP/Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Director-General in charge of Welfare as well as COP Nathan Kofi Boakye who is the Director-General charge of Research and Planning among others.
Although, President Akufo Addo has appointed James Oppong- Buanu as the acting IGP expecting to be confirmed Wontumu thinks otherwise.
Speaking on Ashh FM, Wontumi said even though many people are qualified for the job, he thinks Boakye stood tall among all his peers, saying “I will offer my support to him”.
He noted that insecurity was on the ascendancy in the country recently, and opined that Kofi Boakye had proven beyond every reasonable doubt that he had the means to fight crime of all forms.
The COP is very popular across the country, especially as he has reportedly nabbed several hardened criminals during his three-year stint as the Ashanti Regional Police Commander.
