The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), has called on contributors to disregard claims that their contributions are being misused.
Reports on social media suggested SSNIT was diverting workers’ contributions into treasury bills for personal gains by some individuals at the company.
In the said social media message, the individual is seen advising all SSNIT contributors to rush and check on the update of their contributions; this the trust sees as a deliberate attempt to cause fear and panic among its customers.
In a statement issued yesterday, by the company’s Corporate Affairs Department, the systems put in place by the Trust makes it impossible for workers’ contributions to be diverted.
“Hence, it is totally untrue that SNNIT is diverting contributors’ money into treasury bills for personal gain of some individuals,” the statement read.
It continued: “The management of SNNIT is assuring all contributors that their social security contributions and pensions are safe. Contributions should therefore ignore the call for them to rush to check their statements.
In doubt, SNNIT is asking contributors to check their accounts by requesting for their SNNIT Portal I.D. from their website, www.snnit.org.gh.
Contributors can also send messages containing their full name, SSNIT number, date of birth, name of parents, telephone numbers and email address to [email protected].
SNNIT has therefore encouraged its members to check their statements at least, once a year to ensure that their employers are paying contributors promptly and on the correct salaries.
