Ya Na funeral Will Proceed Despite Bloody Clashes – Otumfuo

The Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has said the final funeral rites of the late overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II, will continue despite gun violence recorded on Thursday and Friday.

In a statement issued by the Manhyia Palace reacting to the recorded violence, the committee said funeral will proceed in accordance with the road map.

“On Sunday 13 January, 2019, all customary process will continue to pave the way for the performance of the funeral by the Elders of the Andani royal family,” –  A press statement from the Manhyia Palace on Saturday, 12 January 2019, said.

The release added that: “On Thursday, 17 January 2019, Kampakuya Na Andani Yakubu Abdulai will perform the circumlocution to complete the funeral process on Friday, 18 January 2019”.

The statement further noted: “On the evening of Friday, 18 January 2019, the accredited elders of Dagbon, will enter the sacred seclusion to consult the traditional oracles for the selection of a new Ya Na”.

The committee also directed Northern Regional Security Council to provide adequate security to facilitate the smooth performance of the funeral by the Andani royal family and the selection of a new Yaa Naa.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante-Apeatu and other top security officials have arrived in the Northern Region. Calm has also returned to Yendi after Friday’s violent clashes.
