ALHAJI MUTUM, Asawase Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), caused a stir on Friday as he insulted a journalist during a live programme on radio.
He stunned scores of listeners as he referred to Mr. Kofi Asante, the Morning Show Host of Nhyira FM in Kumasi as a “big fool”.
Lady Accuses Muntaka
Over the weekend, one Imma, a female supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asawase Constituency, had accused Mohammed Muntaka, the Asawase MP of slapping her.
Narrating her ordeal, Imma alleged that Muntaka had assaulted her after she removed a veil, which was covering the face of a girl Muntaka had brought to lie against the NPP.
“This girl, whose face was covered with a veil, was in the company of Muntaka and she lied that the NPP was registering minors at night and so I removed her veil”, she said.
NDC Chairman Hurls Insults
But Alhaji Mutum, who was responding to the allegations of Imma on the same network, alleged that NPP members rather threw stones “at us without provocation”.
“I and Muntaka were taking the girl, who had testified against the NPP, away peacefully when the NPP members started to throw stones and other objects at us”, he said.
At that juncture, Kofi Asante asked if the stone throwing was what forced Mohammed Muntaka to slap Imma, but this question infuriated the Asawase NDC chairman.
“You are a big fool”, the NDC chairman told Kofi Asante, who sounded shocked, adding that “God will deal with you and the girl who is making the false allegations”.
Professionally though, Kofi Asante retorted: “Chairman Mutum, please is everything okay? I am only asking a question”, but the NDC Chairman fired back: “I am mad” and then hanged the phone.
