The President of the Builders Club says the contributions of the Club is safe despite recent happenings in the banking sector.
According to George Robertson, the country has been going through very daunting economic challenges which has affected every facet of the society.
“Invariably, we have tried as much as possible to keep our heads above the water” he stated.
Crisis
The country’s banking sector since August last year has been in turbulent times as five banks folded up and metamorphised into one bank – the Consolidated Bank Ghana Limited.
The Sovereign Bank, Construction Bank, Beige Bank, unibank and Royal Bank all went under for various reasons, the Central Bank explained.
On August 14, 2017, Capital Bank and UT Bank also suffered similar fate and BoG did not hesitate to close them down, inheriting all the two banks’ assets and liabilities.
Assurance
But speaking at the end of year get together of the Club in Accra over the weekend, Mr. Robertson disclosed that that notwithstanding, the Builders Club as a dynamic and professionally oriented NGO was expected to work out solutions to these challenges and to forge ahead.
He disclosed that the financial outlook of the Club as at the end of December 2018 was impressive due to the pragmatic measures put in place by the leadership of the Club.
Mr. Robertson also noted that attendance to meetings has improved marginally adding that “However, its mainly the executive, some few elders with most new members attending meetings. It is envisaged that a membership drive to bring along all inactive members would be put in place in 2019 so as to improve same.”
The Builders Club president further disclosed that a new data management system is being put in place to track membership attendance at general meetings and participating in other club activities.
Challenges
Mr. Robertson maintained that the club has been bedevilled by issues of inactive members, inability to develop and host its website and the absence of a Social media strategy.
He was however, optimistic that the members would re-dedicate themselves and be committed to their membership obligations.
Mr. Ernest De-Graft Morrison, Vice President of the Club in a brief remark said the vision of the club is to take care of the needy and underprivileged in society.
He said God blesses those who give freely from their hearts.
Mr. Morrison who also doubles as the Assistant Church Father of the Creator’s Blessing Church in Accra urged other guests at the function to join the club.
Meanwhile, the Builders Club has set 20th January, 2019 for its annual thanksgiving service at the True Light Ministry at A-Lang in Accra headed by Apostle Anthony Nkansah.
The Club, with the motto, “Together we build,” was formed in 1999 with four members, now has a membership of over 30.
The Club seeks among others to build a good home, becoming a reliable friend to the destitute and the disadvantage children in society.
It also aim to promote friendship and a reliable family for all members and society.
