Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, has organized a health screening exercise for thousands of his constituents.
“I don’t know why buy Ghanaians generally do not have the culture of visiting hospitals for a normal medical checkup. A Ghanaian is most likely to visit a hospital or health facility when the sickness is serious or when the person is showing visible signs that all is not well medically. We forget that early detection of a health challenge is crucial in addressing that challenge.
“This is wrong. We have to go for regular medical checkups and screening. But I can understand we are not used to it although we all agree it is very important. That is one of the several reasons we are organizing this event to fill in the gap”, Matthew Opoku Prempeh noted in his address at the event.
The health programme, which took place at the Dichemso Electoral Area, in the Manhyia South Constituency on Saturday, saw several thousands of people benefiting from the exercise.
The beneficiaries, including the elderly, were screened and checked for ailments such as Diabetes, Hypertension and Hepatitis B and other common but dangerous diseases, by professional doctors and nurses.
It was the second time in just three months that Napo, who is also Ghana’s Minister of Education, was organizing such a large scale health screening exercise for the people of Dichemso Electoral Area.
Napo’s Address
Napo, in his remarks, said health is wealth therefore he would continue to organize similar screening programmes for his constituents to improve their health.
Napo said he has over the years, organized similar health screening programmes across all the electoral areas in the Manhyia South Constituency and gave an assurance that the exercise would continue.
Napo admonished his residents to engage in body exercise and periodically visit the hospitals for checkups so that they would remain healthy and strong and contribute to national growth.
