Customers of Zenith Bank and GCB can request for the GH Dual card, as the two banks are issuing the dual functionality card.
The GH Dual card is a single card that serves as a gh-link and e-Zwich card at the same time. This means that holders of the GH Dual card can use the same card to perform e-Zwich transactions as well as the regular gh-link or domestic card transactions.
The dual card was introduced by Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) to enable people who regularly use the e-Zwich card and domestic cards to carry one card which performs both functions.
Managing Director of Zenith Bank, Akindele Ogunranti and the Chief Executive of GhIPSS, Archie Hesse, were among the first people to be issued with the Zenith Dual card. Mr. Ogunranti noted that “the innovation by GhIPSS to merge both cards gives customers the opportunity to experience the ‘Power of 2 in 1’.
“This means that this single card can now perform functions that hitherto were done using two cards.”
He added that Zenith Bank remained committed to partnering with GhIPSS on the roll out of future projects.
The Zenith GH Dual card, christened by the Zenith Eazypay card, is targeted at the bank’s customers who rely heavily on either the e-Zwich or gh-link cards or both. The card which forms part of the local electronic payment ecosystem has a myriad of benefits to users. Customers can use this card on all local bank ATMs, POS terminals and hybrid terminals on the gh-link platform as well as on local e-commerce platforms in Ghana.
Mr. Hesse, on his part, commended Zenith Bank for championing the cash-lite agenda and urged all banks to work assiduously to promote electronic payment solutions in Ghana.
The Zenith Easypay card comes with a 3D secure authentication that provides additional security for payments made with the gh-link option of the card only. It also comes with relatively lower transaction fees. It is chip and pin enabled and has a validity period of two years. According to the bank, customers also have the option of personalizing their card if they so desire.
The Bank of Ghana has issued a directive to all banks to issue gh-link cards to their customers
